07/02/15 Workout Recap - Speed Work, Choose a MANTRA

Today's focus was on MAINTAINING the integrity of your stroke while sprinting.  It is easy to succumb to stroke deterioration with fatigue, but part of the battle to keep up your mechanics and technique is strictly mental.  Mind over matter when legs and arms start burning and you feel as though you're going to fall apart.  I recommend each swimmer has his or her own mantra that he repeats during tough sets - it could be something structurally you repeat to yourself mentally, such as "kick, kick, kick" or "strong pull, strong pull".  Or, it could be something uplifting spirit-wise, such as, "I can do this" or "pain is temporary".

For me, my motivational thoughts are faith-driven, such as "God will get me through this", "He will give me strength".  The point is, choose something as your go-to phrase to hang on to when your body feels as though it's going to give out on you...your mind will indeed help keep it going!
